2021/22- Term 3

Impressions of the Slovenian team on Erasmus + mobility in Heide- Germany, 16.5.2022 – 20.5.2022

Our school week in Germany was very interesting and educational. We spent quality time with people, who work with pupils with special needs from Croatia, Austria, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Germany.
We introduced us with German education system for pupils with special needs in the main stream schools and we were also included into learning sessions with some pupils. We saw some priorities of their school system in practice, which would be welcomed also by us in Slovenia. We liked a lot the idea, that the marks for the child with special needs are not the most important for life. On the first place there is, that every pupil is as much as possible independent, with positive self-image and is maximal social integrated into group of other peers.
Compared to the Slovenian school system we were thrilled of the autonomy of special education teachers, who have more freedom in their working. They teach few pupils at the same lesson from different classes and they work only on the areas with learning deficits. During and also at the end of school year special education teacher also can give marks to those pupils, for school subjects German, English and Maths.
On the other hand, we were very surprised about the information, how they try to stop disruptive behavior. First, they give pupils with bad behavior the yellow card and after having two of them, the pupil must leave the school for that day. It is allowed, that the pupil with disruptive behavior is present at school for one hour per week. This is the condition for getting the general certificate of education.
We believe, that Slovenian school system takes care very good for pupils with special needs, but of course, there still stays some place for improvement of that area.

International Family Day - Centar za odgoj i obrazovanje Tomislav Špoljar - Varaždin, Croatia

Every year, at the centre, we mark International family day on 15th of May. At the centre, we celebrate that day by hanging out and holding fun sports games for students and their families. After two years break due to Covid, this year, celebrations had a different look. On that day, the students came to school accompanied by their family members and together, they participated in workshops prepared by teachers. After the workshops, everybody gathered in the school atrium where they enjoyed a concert by Varaždin singer M.B.

Primary school  dr. Ljudevita Pivka Ptuj, Slovenia

As part of the second Erasmus + project "Active children for a better live", which we are just finishing at our school, we talked about differences between people and came to the conclusion that no matter who we are, what we are or where we come from, we all have the same HEART
We accept different people.
At our school different individuals work together some way or another. Some students are very small while others are even taller than our teachers. Some students are paper thin while others have some extra kilos. Some students have black hair, others blond or even ginger. Some students cannot walk, others can't see, while others can't hear or talk. Some students are Muslims, others are Christians. Some students come from far away countries such as Latvia, Ukraine, Shri Lanka, Albania, Bosnia… Even their skin colour is different. Even tough we are different, each of us is an important member of our big school familiy. Each of us is is a friend to someone. We all have the same heart. And every heart needs love.

Galway and Jordanstown pupils have been getting to know each other through a penpal programme.

Schulzentrum im FIDS Quellenstraße, AUSTRIA-DRUM WORKSHOP

On Tuesday after Easter we had a fantastic drum workshop in our school. The students learn to sing a certain rhythm in a few hours, with play and/or dance different instruments. For the final presentation the class in front of classmates and family will also be a precise choreography studied. Very soon they realize that some things are necessary to achieve this lofty goal in so short time:
- the willingness to fit into the team and to support each other
- the courage to make mistakes and take responsibility
- a method that enables fast learning (brain-friendly learning)
- the right attitude towards one's own and others' mistakes
Only when we listen to each other does a noisy mess become music or dance. The fun of drumming/dancing, the shared sense of achievement as well as the Final meeting reinforces the content of social learning so that the project is a valuable reference experience for later.
It was a great day and the pupils were enthusiastic.
